Today, artificial intelligence is penetrating all fields. One of the most prominent of these fields is academia, spanning from medical and health sciences to the humanities and basic sciences. This situation has raised concerns among librarians and information science professionals about whether, with the widespread and pervasive application of artificial intelligence, traditional and even electronic libraries are headed toward obsolescence. Will we witness the disappearance of a fundamental and impactful institution in human society known as the library in the not-so-distant future?

As a librarian, whether working in a school library or in higher education libraries and research institutions, you may have faced the challenge of pondering what the future holds. Is the role of the librarian diminishing, or will artificial intelligence bring about changes in librarians' workflows These are some challenging questions that we will attempt to answer convincingly and substantively in this blog.

It seems that there has been some exaggeration regarding the presence of artificial intelligence in human society, a notion we also see portrayed in movies and television series. The idea that one day artificial intelligence will dominate humans is one of the captivating scenarios in science fiction films, which may have even entered the horror genre and taken on a mythical aspect. Just like other unknown natural phenomena that initially evoke a sense of internal fear in humans, the encounter with artificial intelligence generates a similar mental state for some individuals.

However, the reality is that artificial intelligence cannot reach such a level of control for several reasons, and it is necessary to move it from a mythical state closer to reality. Given the limitations we see in artificial intelligence, the aim of this article is to articulate some of the rumors about the mythical capabilities of AI to the audience of this article and to refute them with substantiated arguments.

AI Can Replace Human Researchers

The first point is that artificial intelligence is a tool and cannot replace the thoughtful and logical human brain. Artificial intelligence is heavily dependent on the data we provide for it. In other words, the primary source of this data is human beings; therefore, the superiority of humans over machines (artificial intelligence) still stands. This data acts as the fuel for this tool, and without it, AI cannot reason even a little or provide answers to questions.

The more accurate the data we provide for this machine, the better the responses we will receive. Therefore, we arrive once again at this important and vital point that artificial intelligence is a tool in human hands, capable of increasing the speed of data processing and providing logical conclusions from these processes with greater speed and accuracy, but it is still human beings who hold the superiority over it.

AI Is Always Objective and Unbiased

The belief that artificial intelligence algorithms lead us to fair and impartial answers is a completely misguided perspective. The reason for this is simple: the data provided to AI includes biases, social inequalities, and so on, and these models reflect that in their responses.

Definitive answers from artificial intelligence are always reliable

The belief that artificial intelligence has the capability to provide definitive answers, especially to research questions, is not entirely accurate. This is because AI inherently lacks the complexities of human behavior. Therefore, for critical answers, we need human intelligence to interpret the responses critically and to consider AI's answers only as part of the overall response to fundamental questions, not as a complete answer.

Conclusion

Despite the limitations in artificial intelligence, it can still be relied upon to some extent in specific fields and its results can be utilized effectively. AI tools at pattern recognition and data processing, and this capability can be leveraged.

Another important point is that it seems necessary to equip AI tools with more technical expertise in the future and to utilize them for broader and more specialized applications. It is predicted that with the specialization of artificial intelligence, some of its current problems will be solved.

It is recommended that researchers carefully select these tools and thoroughly understand their limitations and capabilities, to better utilize artificial intelligence. We should not overlook the role of human perspective and reasoning, and should consider the adaptive analysis that humans can provide.
